[A flash of white, a burst of static. The feed comes on at on odd angle, showing an unremarkable City ceiling. The device, knocked off a counter, rolls a little, angling up from the floor to show a boy climbing up onto a chair so he can reach the kitchen cabinets. He knocks over a couple of boxes but manages not to break anything, before gingerly climbing down with a bowl in hand. This he sets on the counter, shuts the door, then shoves the chair back off screen. Tossing his dark hair out of his eyes, he comes back for the bowl and vanishes from the video, which stays trained on the now-closed cabinet until it times out.]

[There's a bit of static and a few beeps as he picks up the device and pushes buttons aimlessly, triggering the audio and eventually the video. What, they didn't have stuff like this in the seventies, okay? All you can see is a sliver of a young, perplexed face, and a backdrop of fuzzy ceiling. After a moment he gets bored trying to figure out how to make this thingie work and drops it on the table, the picture settling into an unfocused panorama of the apartment he shares with Sylar. The kid wanders off. After a moment, from a distance, you can hear him calling out.]

Mom..?!

[He turns on the video accidentally, careless in his distraction. The feed doesn't last long and is difficult to make out, a jumble of apparently unrelated images-- a fragment of his face, lips firmly set in a frown; a flash of a speckled white ceiling, and an incongruous expanse of... colored feathers. And that's it, because he manages to get it on the voice setting. He clears his throat, tone strained when he does speak.]

I'm not-- [he begins, but pauses. There's a strange rustling in the background.]


Is it normal for curses to present in the middle of the day?

So I'm guessing the other day was a soap-opera thing, given the bad dialogue I was spouting and the nonsense about weddings and secret relatives and murders and all that crap. The wedding is still off, but only because it was never on in the first place. So, uh, please disregard anything crazy that was said. Deb, I am sorry about all that, but obviously I wasn't in control of my actions.

Our French press is missing, though. So I guess the pirate thing was for real?

Anyway. My soul is back to its usual intangible state, and I seem to have lucked out today, apart from feeling kind of sick. Deb, I think your brother and I might have been out in the cold too long yesterday-- you might want to stay upstairs tonight, I don't want you to catch whatever we've got.

I can stay calm, just a few more hours of this... it reeks...
