So how long does someone have to be missing from the City before you start wondering if they're not coming back?

I don't want to jump the gun and move out on my roommate, but the ticking's kind of a pain, you know?

Enough to stay open. Although I like cars best, I don't cater exclusively to them.

[She stretches a bit]

[She smiles a little wider]

[Not the answer he was expecting, but, okay. He smiles again at her, a little bemused but covering it with vague politeness.]

Anyway, I'm guessing I'll know one way or another about my roommate in a couple of weeks. A month seems to be the standard cut-off point on returns.

How unusual. Why a month?

[She's distracted by her work, and she goes back to fiddling with tiny gears on an open box, but she's paying attention to Brian, too]

[He can relate. Few things are as annoying as being interrupted in the middle of your work.]

Honestly? I'm not sure. But I hear it a lot as a rule of thumb.

[Her limbs go askew again, as if she can't concentrate on looking like a lady and working at the same time.]

That's odd. A month. But something to keep in mind. What is your roommate like?

Interesting. [It applies to both what she asks, and what she's doing. On someone else it might look graceless, but that isn't the impression he takes away.] I think you'd like him, he runs a watch shop.

[A pause]

I don't know very much about watches. I could fix one, but not as well as I can fix a car.

[Her fingers are very precise as they work]

But then I hope he returns. I would like to see intricate watch repair.

I'm sure you could convince him to show you.

[He can understand Sylar's fondness for clockwork, even if he doesn't share it. Mechanical order can be satisfying. Another reason to enjoy watching her work.]

[Her eyes flicker over to look at him for a moment and she hooks a chair from under her desk with a foot and pulls it out for him]

I'm sure I can convince almost anyone to let me do anything.

[Completely matter-of-factly]

[he echoes, taking the proffered seat and dropping the bag he's had slung over one shoulder beside him.]
