This post reserved for OOC contact. Plotting always appreciated! Criticism and questions are welcomed, but I ask that you please be polite even if you think I'm doin it wrong.

I doubt it will ever come up, but~ regarding 4th wall breakage, I don't think anyone would have a reason to know his canon, so plx don't do it... if for some reason your character would know the show and/or books, contact me and we'll try to work something out.

[Nothing but blue sky, for a moment, and then he sets it down on something, leaning slightly into the frame, but watching something further out. There's a faintly pleased curl to his lips.

In the sky a dark bird circles and wheels, never straying too far before it turns to float back towards this rooftop, as though held by an invisible tether.

After a minute or two the bird turns a final time, growing in size as with a few pumps of powerful wings it approaches the camera, settling mere feet away.]

[OPEN ACTION - BACKDATED TO EARLIER]

I.

In the middle of the day, he's seated in a sunny spot out on the deck flipping through a Parisian magazine from a week or so ago with a cup of coffee beside him. His clothes are certainly appropriate for a first class passenger on the Gargantuan, if a little big in the shoulders; nonetheless he seems completely at ease.

The magazine's not getting much attention, though; mainly he's idly watching the people who pass by on their way about the ship.

II.
The evening finds him wandering around the interior of the ship, not lost but apparently not looking for anything in particular, if his actions are any indication.

The later it gets, the more dissatisfied and restless he looks.

[Nothing special to see here, just a slightly out-of-focus view of Rudy at work. He's fitting a metal armature into a cast plastic hand, alternately shaving paper-thin bits of flesh-colored rubber away and checking how the pieces measure up.

There's a sharp rap on the door, and he sets the work down, standing a little straighter as it opens. The nurse in the doorway has a folder in hand, and she starts to say something as she takes a step in.

Or, at least, she tries to. He watches her fruitlessly wave her hand up and down a moment, looking for a break in the invisible barrier.]

Just leave it on the floor. I'll get it later.

[The camera comes into focus on his face, angled down, attention obviously held by something in his hands or at his feet. If he's aware he's being filmed, it doesn't show. The transmission isn't particularly interesting, and doesn't last very long; wherever he's stuck today, it's shadowed and woody, large leaves obscuring much of the background, apparently immune to the usual seasonal dessication. But of course, Xanadu is a funny place.

Those with an eye for detail might notice, out of focus and in the background, a neat pale pile with darker streaks, a faint and fuzzy red gleam diffusing where the light hits it right. It's a messy job, all considered, but the best he could manage under the circumstances. Hardly art, but in its own odd way, not inefficient.

Eventually, he steps out of frame, and after a few moments, the camera switches off this scene.]

It's funny that such a remote place gets as much tourist traffic as this. No way in or out, except once every couple of months, and generally you can't or won't give us a clue on how to find our way back where we belong.

Interesting fact: a collection of giant spider legs is not nearly as appealing the day after whatever that last curse was. I'm still not entirely sure what I had intended to do with them.

I've seen this happen before, this influx, but last time I'd just arrived myself so it wasn't any more confusing than the City as a whole. It's rather an interesting thing to observe though, now, with a little more experience under my belt.

Pain is something I inflict, something I don't often experience. It doesn't matter so much, whether they suffer, just that they bleed the right way.

A number of people have discussed the basic function of pain, as (to oversimplify the matter) a reaction to unpleasant stimuli. I figured maybe I could save some repetition by talking about a different take on the topic.

Though of course a certain amount of discomfort is to be expected in my line of work-- manufacturing and fitting prosthetics-- due to the inherent difficulties of replacing a lost limb with artificial materials. Chafing, pinching; obvious physical sensations with obvious physical causes. But I hear a lot of reports of something a little stranger, too.

It's not the most well-known or well-understood phenomenon, but reports of phantom limb sensations and pains have been documented for hundreds of years. Any number of patients I've treated, usually soon after their amputations, have complained of being able to feel the part they've lost; invisible, intangible, but somehow not insensate. The cause is not entirely clear; it's not merely a matter of damaged nerves at the site of the amputation, though that plays a part. It's a deeper problem. Some part of our brain can't quite fathom the loss; it imagines the piece is still there, the puzzle intact. The ghosts stay with you. And because it isn't there, it's not a simple matter of waiting for the injury to heal.

|[ooc; lifted and adapted from wikipedia, because i am not my character :X if I got something wrong please attribute it to out of character error rather than in-character, and feel free to contact me to let me know but uh. he ought to know what he's talking about. ^^;; i did my best to make it correct and coherent. /disclaimerrr ALSO pardon slow tags since notifs are dead ><]|
